Laode Sulaeman currently serves as the Director General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), a position he has held since 2025. With a career spanning nearly three decades within the Ministry, he brings extensive expertise in technical research, infrastructure planning, and human resource development to Indonesia’s energy sector.
Before his current appointment, Mr. Sulaeman was the Director of Oil and Gas Infrastructure Planning and Development. His extensive leadership tenure within the Ministry includes serving as Head of the Center for Human Resources Development (BPSDM) and holding key roles in investment and rural electrification within the Directorate General of Electricity. Additionally, he has managed strategic international partnerships, notably serving as Deputy Director of Cooperation with the World Bank.
Mr. Sulaeman holds both a Bachelor’s Degree (1996) and a Master’s Degree (2002) in Chemical Engineering from the Universitas Indonesia. He began his professional journey in 1997 as a researcher, providing a strong scientific foundation for his subsequent policy and leadership roles.
